Our mission is to provide process automation and control systems for metals industry covering the wide spectrum of Danieli Technology, ranging from iron ore to long and flat products.

Furthermore, we design and supply complete electrical distribution systems, up to turnkey solutions for steel industry, with installation engineering based on extensive experience and on the required standards.

DRP Process and Equipment Control

The Direct Reduction Plant Models and Process Control systems aim at keeping under control the process parameters and variables. New developments include the Reconstruction Model, used to monitor and control process condition, with Product Quality Prediction, improved diagnostic methods for instrumentation and for equipment efficiency together with statistical analysis of collected data.

Q-MELT

EAF Electric arc furnace process control

For EAF process control powerful process models are provided, allowing any kind of raw material charge mix, such as a combinations of scrap, hot or cold DRI/HBI, pig iron and hot metal.

Operational set points are generated in real-time for various melting practices, such as:

Batch charging.
Continuous feeding.
Combined batch and continuous feeding.

Main modules involved:

LCC Least-cost Charge Calculator, to optimize the charges to be used.
Static Mass & Heat Balance for the pre-calculation of the required   amounts of raw materials and energy for melting.
Process Cycle Set Up for the pre-calculation of operational set points.
Set Point Generation for on-line control of electrical power input, oxygen, fuel, carbon, and charge materials flowrate.
Dynamic Set Point Generation, which uses the harmonic analysis of the electric arc, and the online analysis of the offgas as feedback for the calculation.
Tapping additions calculations for deoxidization, slag-forming and alloying, including Jominy and DI calculations.

Q-REF

LF Ladle furnace process control

The ladle furnace process control is able to define refining strategy as a function of the sequence of ladle departure. At the same time, it considers a dynamic update of the refining strategy as a function of any changes within the production schedule.

The ladle furnace process performs frequent predictive calculations of whether it is still possible to respect the temperature and time targets for the end of the process.

Main modules involved:

Process cycle setup featuring a continuous re-calculation of the  recommended heating patterns based on the requested end time and  temperature, and the process practice to be followed.
Optimizing calculations of the required amounts of the materials to be added for slag reduction, slag building, alloying, steel cleaning and cooling purposes.
Energy balance, providing a continuous prediction of the steel temperature and the heating / cooling rate.
Desulphurization calculations that optimize the target slag weight.
Jominy and DI calculations that determine  whether it is still possible to achieve the targets for these given the current steel analysis, and if so, the optimum target steel analysis with which to continue the heat.

Q-VAC

VD-VOD Process and Equipment Control

To control and optimize the vacuum treatment of the liquid steel.

The static process control systems are based on the process energy balance, in combination with operation practice related to the actual initial conditions and final restrictions.
The dynamic models are based on the process gas analysis. Such information can be used to continuously evaluate the decarburization rate, carbon content, and steel temperature.

VD process – In addition to those for the LF, the main modules involved are: 

Calculation of the vacuum times required for the removal of S, H, N and C.
Optimizing calculations of the required amounts of raw materials for slag building, alloying, steel cleaning and cooling purposes.
Energy balance providing a continuous prediction of the steel temperature and the cooling rate.

VOD process – In addition to those for the VD, the main modules involved are: 

Calculation of the blow pattern required for stainless steels, and whether blowing is needed, for other low-carbon steels.
Dynamic optimization control of the blow, via feedback from gas analyzer, for stainless steels.
Optimizing calculations of the required amounts of raw materials for slag reduction purposes.

 

Q-CAST

Q-CAST is the Danieli Automation solution for continuous casting machines, resulting from the long experience and know how shared with the Danieli Group.

 

PROCESS AND EQUIPMENT FOR CASTING MACHINES

Thin and thick slab casters

DANIELI AUTOMATION gained considerable experience in the continuous casting process control of Thin and Thick Slabs thanks to a large number of projects successfully completed.
In conjunction with Danieli Wean United (Danieli’s division responsible for thin slab technology) and with Danieli Davy Distington (Danieli’s division responsible for thick slab technology), we have developed a suite of technological solutions to optimize the casting process and improve the production machine performances.
The Danieli know-how can be applied to both, new or existing slab casters, with the aim of achieving enhanced slab quality at the required production rates.

Flexible, reliable operation to produce at minimum operating costs is obtained thanks to:

The rolling mill speed system DMC2000 is the DANIELI AUTOMATION solution to control long product rolling mills. This system is a proven robust system suitable for any rolling requirement in terms of product dimensions, metallurgical structure, plant productivity, for both high-quality and commercial steel grades and provides the best of Danieli’s experience and knowledge in rolling process control for bar mills, wire rod mills, light and heavy section mills as well as rail mills.

WEDGE GAUGE CONTROL

HiWEDGE is a non-contact laser optical system for direct on-line measurement of the wedge and the width of hot and cold slabs or plates.

When located up-stream of the roughing mill, the HiWEDGE system can provide
information to the rougher control to minimize camber and to clearly identify any profile shape change.
Information provided by the system can also be used at the caster to improve process control.

CENTER LINE DEVIATION SENSOR FOR FLAT PRODUCTS

HOT METAL DETECTORS FAMILY

The ID2000 series of optical sensor are designed to detect the presence of hot infrared emitting bodies. Typical applications are the material presence detection in hot wire rod, bar and section mills or in plate and hot strip mills,

Anthropomorphic robot for skimming and zinc dross removal

The working principle of Q-ROBOT Zinc is based on an industrial 6-axis anthropomorphic robot with its own control system that, using a specially designed tool, skims the surface of the zinc bath to remove dross, and place it in a dross container. This is the same job performed by a human operator.

The Robot continuously makes cyclic passes across the surface of the zinc bath. This behaviour can be adjusted by means of sensors and/or direct human intervention.

SLAG DETECTION SYSTEM FOR LADLE OR EBT FURNACE

HiSLAG is an electromagnetic system providing accurate and reliable early detection of slag in the teeming nozzle, thus preventing slag being poured.
