Since 1985 ELTRA is an Italian Company present in the market of encoders, proximity sensors and linear transducers both nationally and in foreign Countries.

In those years the company constantly grew extending its product range (currently more than 15.000 articles and 3.000 customers) maintaining flexibility and the capability to manufacture products designed according to Customer specifications. Incremental Encoders

Encoders are designed in order to control the position and the angular speed of moving mechanical axels.

Main application field are: wood-working machinery, textile machines, CNC machinery, and so forth.

ELTRA brand encoders offers a complete range of encoders with resolution up to 10.000 pulses per turn (ppr) with a wide flange choice andseveral electronic outputs.

Shaft, blind hollow shaft and through hollow shaft up to a diameter of 75 mm (2.95″) are available.

Metric Wheels [RH – RM]

Metric wheel series designed for specific industrial applications where 
is required to measure a linear movement (i.e. continuous sheet cutting machines of wood, textiles, glass, etc.). Precise reading and high stress resistance are the main features of these encoders. The body is entirelydesigned of aluminium and mounted using an oscillating arm pivoted on the shaft. Absolute Encoders

 Absolute encoders are capable to provide the correct data after a power-down event without needing to be reset to the zero point.

Thanks to these specifications and the possibility to transfer data over a field bus, absolute encoders are nowadays used more frequently in various application fields.

Max resolution: higher than 8.192 information per turn (13 bits). Max number of turns: 8.192 (12 bits).

Parallel, SSI Output [EA58 – 63 – 90 – 115]

ABSOLUTE SINGLETURN PARALLEL ENCODER DESCRIPTION

Resolutions available up to 13 bit and 8192 ppr. Wide application range thanks to several models and different flange types. This series assures high reliability even in the most tough industrial applications. It is available with cable connector output and protection class up to IP 66. Gray and binary code output with several electronics available: NPN, NPN OPEN COLLECTOR, PNP, PNP OPEN COLLECTOR and PUSH PULL.

ABSOLUTE SINGLETURN SSI ENCODER DESCRIPTION

This series is designed to satisfy the new serial transmission philosophy of data output. A 13 bit word data is the standard output for these encoders. Meaningful bits are proportionally to the chosen encoder resolution. This type of transmission reduces wiring issues in order to maintain outstanding device performances. Only a four wire connection is needed: a pair for the position code and the other one for the clock signal. Both signals are transmitted by differential logic. In order to satisfy all dimensional requirements, a wide and complete range of mechanical combinations are available.

PROFIBUS output [EA58 – 63 – 90 – 115]

The Eltra singleturn Profibus encoder series (Identification Number 0x0599) is complying to the Profibus DP standard as described on the European Standard EN 50170 Volume 2. Particularly, Eltra Profibus encoders are according to “PROFIBUS-Profile for Encoders, Order No. 3.062”. The Profibus DP interface maintains the same maximumresolution and characteristics (8192 ppr) of the stand-alone version and adds the plus of the Profibus DP network.

ICO output [EA58 – 63]

The only encoder available on the market featuring an absolute output
 with the simplicity of the incremental one and adding an easy wiring system. Thanks to the integration of a micro-controller, it provides all the advantages of an absolute encoder transmitting the data as an incremental one (A, B) with a transmission frequency between 0 and 10 KHz. As for Parallel and SSI series, a broad selection of mechanical configuration is available in order to assure an easy mounting according to customer requirements.

ABSOLUTE MULTITURN PARALLEL ENCODER DESCRIPTION

This series is designed for application where a very high precision is required, even also on extended linear distances. Resolutions up to 13 bits on the single turn (8192 ppr) and 12 bits as number of turns (4096 turns) are available. Sturdy mechanic parts and several flanges make this series suitable in such a wide range of applications assuring high performances even in the most tough industrial applications. This series is available with cable or connector output both with Gray or binary code. The PUSH PULL electronic is suitable for all industrial application fields.

ABSOLUTE SINGLETURN SSI ENCODER DESCRIPTION
The absolute multiturn encoder series with SSI output provides data with the same format as previously described for singleturn encoders. Considering the high data volume in multiturn encoders, the serial data transfer is an efficient solution in order to curb the number of wires and the SSI standard is a valuable one. The output data is a 25 bit word and useful bits are proportional to the resolution chosen for the encoder. This transmission standard efficiently reduces wiring issues maintaining the highest level of performances. Similary to singleturn encoders, number of wires for the transmission is 4 (2 for the data and 2 for the clock signal -both are transmitted in differential logic). A wide range of mechanical parts and flanges designed to satisfy different requirements is available.

Conditioning Boards

Adapter Signal Splitter [EMB]


This board is used when it is necessay to adapt the encoder electronic characteristics to the controller one than one board reducing drastically wiring by mounting boards in a single support. Main functions of the EMB are output signal splitting and adaption of output stages. For instance, it happens to have an encoder with a 5 Vdc output and a control accepting only 24 Vdc data. It may also happen to use an encoder connected with a controller at the same voltage, but having different electronics. It can solve a wide range of problems: check the ordering code in the back page to find further information. On the board there can be present up to two different voltages and it must be supplied through the X4 connector with the higher voltage used. Moreover, it is possible to obtain up to eight outputs by assembling more.

Encoder Signal Selector [EMD]


This board is used when is necessary to carry out a selected signal among a maximum of three inputs. The EMD board accepts as input signals coming from a maximum of three encoders and supplies as output the signals electronically selected of one of these. The output signal is selected by opportunately suppling the two inputs, IN1 and IN2, according to the working diagram (see back side). Output and encoder type to be connected have to be within the range described in the ordering code. All electronic types of the connected encoders have to be the same. Moreover, the EMD supplies three contacts normally open switching to close when the respective input is selected.
